What is a Pinned Post and Why Should You Use It?

A pinned post is a specific post that you manually select to stay at the very top of your Facebook Page's timeline. While new posts are added chronologically, the pinned post remains "stuck" in that prime real estate until you decide to unpin or replace it. It’s essentially your page's digital welcome mat or bulletin board.

But why should you bother? Pinning a post on your Facebook page is a simple action with several powerful benefits:

  • Maximum Visibility: It guarantees your most crucial content is seen first by anyone who visits your page, cutting through the noise of your regularly scheduled posts.
  • Driving Key Actions: You can direct traffic to a specific landing page, promote event sign-ups, encourage video views, or push sales on a featured product. The pinned post becomes your constant call-to-action.
  • Highlighting Promotions: Got a sale running for the next week? Pin it. Hosting a special giveaway? Pin it. This ensures that even casual page visitors are aware of your current offers.
  • Sharing Important Updates: If you have an important announcement, like a change in business hours, a new location, or a policy update, pinning it ensures the information is easily accessible.
  • Showcasing Your Best Content: A post that got amazing engagement or perfectly encapsulates your brand's mission is a great candidate for a pinned post. It acts as an evergreen introduction to what your brand is all about.

How to Pin a Facebook Post in Meta Business Suite: A Step-by-Step Guide

Meta Business Suite has become the central hub for managing your professional Facebook and Instagram presence. While the interface can seem a bit overwhelming at first, pinning a post is a quick and painless process once you know where to look. Here's exactly how to do it.

Step 1: Log in to Meta Business Suite

Start by heading to business.facebook.com and logging into your account. On the left-hand side, make sure you have the correct Business Account and associated Facebook Page selected from the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Navigate to "Posts & Reels"

Look for the main navigation menu on the left side of your screen. Click on the "Content" or "Planner" tab. From the sub-menu that appears, select "Posts & Reels." This will take you to your content library, where you can see all the posts you've published, scheduled, or saved as drafts for your connected accounts.

Pro Tip: Make sure you're on the "Published" tab to see the content that is currently live on your page.

Step 3: Locate the Post You Want to Pin

Scroll through your list of published posts to find the one you want to feature at the top of your page. You can use the search bar or filter by content type if you have trouble finding it. Remember, you can only pin a post that has already been published on your Facebook Page.

Step 4: Pin the Post

Once you've found the desired post, look to the far right of the post's entry in the list. You will see a three-dot icon (…). Clicking this icon will open a dropdown menu with several options.

In this menu, you should see the option "Pin to top of page." Click it.

You'll see a brief confirmation message once the action is complete. That’s it! Your selected post is now pinned to your Facebook Page timeline.

Step 5: Verify the Post is Pinned

To be certain it worked, open a new browser tab and navigate directly to your public Facebook Page. Your chosen post should now appear at the top of your feed with a small blue thumbtack icon and the label "Pinned Post" to signify its special status.

Unpinning or Replacing Your Pinned Post

Your pinned post shouldn't be a "set it and forget it" element. To keep your page fresh, you'll want to update it periodically. Removing or replacing a pinned post is just as easy as pinning one.

You have two options:

  1. To Unpin a Post: Follow the same steps as above. Navigate to your published posts in Meta Business Suite, find the currently pinned post (it will often have a small indicator), click the three-dot icon, and select "Unpin from top of page."
  2. To Replace a Pinned Post: You don't have to unpin the old one first. Simply find the new post you want to feature, click its three-dot icon, and select "Pin to top of page." Facebook will automatically unpin the previous post and replace it with your new selection. You can only have one post pinned at a time.

A Quick Note on Pinning Instagram Posts

While Meta Business Suite is fantastic for managing both platforms, the pinning functionality works differently for Instagram. In the Instagram app itself, you can "Pin to your profile," which places a specific post, Reel, or Guide at the top of your grid (you can pin up to three).

This action must be done directly within the Instagram mobile app. When you tap the three-dot icon on one of your posts in the app, you'll see the "Pin to your profile" option. This functionality is not currently available from within the Meta Business Suite dashboard.

Best Practices for YourPinned Content

To get the most out of your pinned post, keep these simple tips in mind:

  • Have a Clear Goal: Know exactly what you want your pinned post to achieve. Is it to get email signups? Sell a product? Inform your audience? A clear goal helps you write a stronger call-to-action.
  • Use Eye-Catching Visuals: The post you pin should have a compelling image or video that stops the scroll and clearly communicates your message.
  • Refresh It Regularly: A post pinned in January that’s still there in June can make your page look neglected. Update your pinned post whenever your primary marketing focus shifts.
  • Check Your Links: If your pinned post includes a link, triple-check that it’s working correctly and directs users exactly where you want them to go.

Final Thoughts

Pinning a post in Meta Business Suite is a straightforward yet powerful tactic to steer the conversation on your Facebook Page. By following these steps, you can effectively highlight time-sensitive promotions, critical updates, and your best-performing content, ensuring every page visitor sees exactly what you want them to see first.
