How to See Post Reactions on Facebook Ad

Cody Schneider8 min read

It’s easy to get lost in Facebook's performance metrics like CPM, CTR, and conversion rates, but what about the human element behind the ad? Understanding how real people are reacting to your creative can reveal powerful insights hiding in plain sight. This tutorial will walk you through exactly where to find reactions, comments, and shares on your Facebook ads and how to use that feedback to build better campaigns.

Why You Should Always Check Your Ad's Reactions

Monitoring reactions goes far beyond just feeling good about a few hundred "Likes." It’s a vital part of effective campaign management that provides qualitative feedback you can’t get from a standard performance report. This simple habit can give you a significant competitive advantage.

Gauge Genuine Audience Sentiment

A "Like" is one thing, but a "Love," "Haha," or "Angry" reaction tells a much more specific story about how your ad makes people feel. If your ad for a charity receives hundreds of "Love" reactions, you know the emotional chord is connecting. If a new product ad is getting a lot of "Angry" reactions, it might signal confusing messaging, a frustrating landing page experience, or an issue with your brand's perception. These reactions are pure, unfiltered sentiment data, telling you if your creative resonates positively or misses the mark entirely.

Build Powerful Social Proof

An ad with hundreds of positive reactions, comments, and shares looks much more credible and trustworthy than one with zero engagement. This social proof works on both human psychology and the Facebook algorithm. Prospects see a popular ad and are more likely to trust it and click through. At the same time, Facebook’s ad delivery system often rewards highly engaged ads with lower costs (CPM) and better placement, as the algorithm interprets the engagement as a sign of a high-quality, relevant ad.

Uncover Priceless Direct Feedback

The comments section of your ad is a direct line to your customers and critics. This is where you find out what questions are on a prospect's mind right before they decide to buy (or not to buy). Common questions like "Do you ship to my country?" or "Is this available in blue?" are valuable feedback for improving your ad copy or website FAQ. You can also spot potential misinterpretations of your offer or identify customer service issues before they escalate.

Identify and Scale Winning Ads Faster

Often, the ad with the best quantitative results (like low cost-per-click) also has the strongest qualitative feedback. When an ad is racking up positive comments and shares organically, it's a clear signal that the creative is a winner. This gives you the confidence to increase the budget on that specific ad or use its visual and copy elements as a template for your next campaigns.

How to Find and View Your Facebook Ad Reactions

Facebook doesn't always make it obvious where to find the "live" version of your ad. Here are three straightforward methods to see what your audience is saying, ranging from the most common approach to a useful trick for finding any ad post.

Method 1: Using the Ad Preview Feature in Ads Manager

This is the official and most common way to access your ad's engagement. It works for all ad types, including "dark posts" (unpublished posts created solely for advertising).

  1. Navigate to the 'Ads' Tab: Log in to your Facebook Ads Manager account. Select the campaign and then the ad set that contains the ad you want to check. Finally, click on the "Ads" tab to see the list of individual ads within that ad set.
  2. Select Your Ad and Preview: Hover your mouse over the ad you want to inspect. Several icons will appear. Click the "Edit" button (pencil icon) under the ad name. This will open the ad editing panel.
  3. Open the Ad Preview: In the top right corner of the ad editing panel, you'll see a preview of your ad. Just above the preview, click on the box-with-arrow icon and select "Advanced Preview." A new window will pop up.
  4. View as a Facebook Post with Comments: In the Advanced Preview window, you'll see a section named "See post." From the dropdown here, select "Facebook Post with Comments."

This final click will open your ad in a new browser tab, showing it exactly as it appears on Facebook. You can now see every reaction, comment, and share. You can even reply to comments directly from this view.

Method 2: Finding and Using the Post ID

This method is a bit more technical but extremely reliable. Every post on Facebook, including ads, has a unique identification number. If you can find this ID, you can construct a direct URL to the post. This is helpful if the preview method feels clunky or if you want to quickly share a direct link with a team member.

Finding Your Ad's Post ID

The easiest way to get the Post ID is by enabling it as a column in your Ads Manager view:

  • In the "Ads" view of your Ads Manager, look for the "Columns" dropdown menu (usually says "Performance" by default).
  • Click it and select "Customize Columns..." from the bottom of the list.
  • In the search box, type "Post ID" and check the box that appears.
  • Click the "Apply" button in the bottom right corner.

You will now see a new column in your ad report labeled "Post ID" containing a long string of numbers for each ad.

Constructing the URL

The standard URL format for a Facebook post is https://www.facebook.com/[Post_ID].

Simply copy the Post ID for your ad from the new column and paste it at the end of the URL like so:

https://www.facebook.com/12345678901234567

Hit enter, and this link will take you directly to the live ad post.

Method 3: Checking Your Page's Notifications

This final method is less reliable for ads created from scratch (dark posts) but often works for boosted posts or ads created from an existing page post.

Sometimes, comments and reactions on these ad types will show up in your main Facebook Page's notifications or within your Business Suite inbox. While convenient, it’s not a consistent method for tracking all ad engagement, especially if you're running multiple campaigns with unique ads. You risk missing conversations if you rely solely on your page notifications. We recommend using one of the Ads Manager methods for a comprehensive view.

You Found the Reactions... Now What?

Finding the engagement is only half the battle. The real value comes from turning that feedback into action. Here’s what you should be doing with the insights you gather.

Analyze the Sentiment, Not Just the Volume

Go beyond a simple count. Hover over the reactions icon to see the breakdown.

  • High Proportion of "Love" Reactions: Your audience is emotionally connecting with the creative. Think about why this ad resonated so well. Was it the heartwarming image? The aspirational copy? Use this insight to inform your next video or image choice.
  • A Cluster of "Angry" Reactions: This is a major red flag. Dig into the comments immediately. Is your ad misleading? Is your product claim upsetting people? Did you target an audience that opposes your message? It may be best to pause this ad and go back to the drawing board before you damage your brand's reputation.
  • Lots of "Haha" Reactions: If your ad was meant to be funny, congratulations! You've succeeded. If it wasn't supposed to be funny, you might have an issue with your copy or imagery that's causing prospects to laugh at you, not with you.

Engage with Your Community and Provide Support

Respond to comments promptly and professionally. Treat every comment as an opportunity.

  • Answer Questions: If someone asks a question, answer it publicly so other people with the same question can see the answer. This is on-the-spot customer service that builds trust.
  • Address Criticism: Don't delete negative comments (unless they are abusive or spam). Address them head-on. A polite, helpful response to a critical comment shows you care and can sometimes win over a skeptic.
  • Thank Praisers: Acknowledge positive feedback. A simple "We're so glad you like it!" shows there are real humans behind the brand and encourages more positive interaction.

Use Engagement to Refine Your Targeting & Creative

Repeated questions or comments can guide your ad and website optimizations. If ten people ask about the price in the comments, it's a clear sign that you should make your pricing more prominent in the ad copy or on the landing page. If many people tag friends with a comment like "this would be perfect for our Z," it might give you a new audience interest ("Z") to target. The comment section is free market research. Use it to feed new ideas back into your campaign planning.

Final Thoughts

Paying attention to your Facebook ad reactions and comments is a superpower. It transforms your ads from one-way broadcasts into two-way conversations, providing you with real-time feedback to strengthen your creative, build community trust, and ultimately drive better results.

Of course, manually clicking through dozens of ad previews can get tedious. That’s why we built Graphed .
