  • Meta Business Suite (or Business Manager): This is the entire office building. It’s the top-level container that holds all your company’s assets, including your Facebook Pages, Ad Accounts, Instagram profiles, pixels, and more. Being a user here is like having general access to the building itself.
  • Ad Account: This is a specific floor or department within the building - it's the asset where all your ad campaigns, billing, and performance data live. Being in the building doesn't automatically give you access to this specific floor.
  • People: These are the individuals (employees, contractors, agency partners) who have been invited into your "building" (Business Suite) and given specific keycards to access certain "floors" (like an Ad Account or Facebook Page).

To remove someone’s access, you can either take away their keycard for a specific floor (the ad account) or you can escort them out of the building entirely (remove them from the business). We'll cover both scenarios.

Method 1: Removing Access Directly from Ad Account Settings

This method is useful if you are managing access at the ad account level and want someone to retain access to other assets, like your Facebook Page.

Step 1: Navigate to Meta Business Suite Go to https://business.facebook.com/ and select the correct Business Account from the dropdown menu on the left if you manage more than one.

Step 2: Go to "Ad Accounts" In the left-hand navigation menu, click on "All tools" (the hamburger icon). In the expanded menu, look for "Ads Manager." Once you're in Ads Manager, find the campaign view toolbar and click the settings icon (a small gear icon), which will take you to your Ad Account Settings. Alternatively, you can navigate directly to Business Settings > Data Sources > Ad Accounts.

Step 3: Select an Ad Account and View "Assigned People & Partners" Select the appropriate ad account from the list. You should see a white box with "Assigned People" at the top and "Partners" underneath. Click on the "Assigned People" box. From there, it should display all the people who have access to this particular asset. Next to each person, there is a drop-down arrow. Click that to display all the types of settings they have privileges to control.

Step 4: Remove the User Next to the user's name, you’ll see the level of access they have (e.g., "Full Control"). Click their name, and on the right side of the screen, a menu should pop up that lets you toggle all the permissions this person can access. Underneath that is a blue button that says "Save Changes" and a white one that reads "Delete." Click the "Delete" button. Meta will ask you to confirm your decision. Confirm it, and their access to that specific ad account will be revoked immediately.

Method 2: Removing Access via "People" in Business Settings

This is arguably the cleanest and most common way to manage who has access to which assets. It gives you a bird's eye view of one person and all the assets they're connected to.

Step 1: Go to Business Settings Once again, navigate to https://business.facebook.com/settings. Make sure the correct Business Account is selected at the top-left.

Step 2: Select "People" In the left-hand navigation pane, under the "Users" section, click on "People." This will show you a list of every individual who has access to your Business Suite.

Step 2 (Alternative): Click on Ad Accounts Box Instead Once in "Business Settings," stay in the "Accounts" dropdown and click on "Ad accounts." This should show a table containing every Ad Account you have connected to your business. Find the ad account you want to delete a user from and click the trash icon next to their profile. You should now see all the assigned assets appear as small clickable bubbles. Click this, and you can manually select a check to allow access or uncheck it to remove privileges. Click the remove button, and they shouldn't show up in that table any longer. They will no longer have access to run, edit, or even view ads and reports from that account.

How to Completely Remove Someone from Your Organization

If an employee has left the company, simply removing them from an ad account might not be enough. They could still have access to your Page, Pixel, or other business assets. In this case, you need to remove them from your Business Account entirely.

Warning: Before doing this, ensure they are not the sole admin of any asset and that ownership of any critical assets has been transferred if necessary.

Step 1: Navigate to People in Business Settings Follow the same initial steps as Method 2 above: go to https://business.facebook.com/settings and click on "People" under the "Users" heading.

Step 2: Select the Person to Remove Click on the name of the person you want to remove from the list. You will now see the different assigned assets this person has access to, if any. After you have selected assets to assign to other team members, review what you are deleting or transferring. Once that is done, click the person's name at the top of this pop-up menu. Ensure your selection is correct, then click the blue "Remove" button to finish.

Now, this user is officially gone. They've been walked out of the building and have no remaining asset keycards. You can ensure this by going back to the user list. If their profile can't be found, it means their account has been properly de-linked from your Ad Account and is successful.

Best Practices for Managing Ad Account Permissions

Staying on top of user access prevents problems before they start. Here are a few simple habits to adopt.

  • Perform Regular Audits: Once every quarter, take 15 minutes to review everyone in your Business Suite. Go through the "People" list and ask yourself, "Does this person still need this level of access to do their job?" Remove anyone who no longer needs it.
