Step 1: Get Your Google Analytics 4 Measurement ID

The first part of the process happens within Google Analytics itself. Your goal here is to create a "property" for your Wix site, which will generate a unique tracking ID. This ID is how Google knows which website to associate the data with.

If you have an old "Universal Analytics" property, note that it stopped collecting new data in July 2023. You'll need to create a new Google Analytics 4 property.

For New Users (Creating a Brand New GA4 Account):

  1. Navigate to analytics.google.com and sign in with your Google account.
  2. Click "Start measuring." You'll be prompted to create an account. Give it a name, like your business name. Click "Next."
  3. Now, you'll create a Property. Name it after your website (e.g., "My Wix Store"). Set your reporting time zone and currency. Click "Next."
  4. Provide some basic business information. This helps Google tailor your experience. Click "Create."
  5. For the next step, "Choose a platform," select Web.
  6. Set up your "data stream." This is where you connect your specific website. Enter your Wix site’s URL (e.g., https://www.yourbrand.com) and give the stream a name (e.g., "Wix Website"). Click "Create stream."
  7. Google will then display the Stream details. In the top right corner, you'll see a Measurement ID that looks like G-XXXXXXXXXX. Copy this ID! This is what you need for Wix.

For Existing Users (Adding a New GA4 Property to an Existing Account):

  1. Sign in to your Google Analytics account.
  2. Click the Admin gear icon in the bottom-left corner.
  3. In the "Property" column, click "Create Property."
  4. Follow steps 3-7 from the "New Users" guide above. You will be prompted to name your property, set up a data stream, and get your Measurement ID.

Once you have your G-XXXXXXXXXX Measurement ID copied, you’re ready to head over to your Wix dashboard.

With your Measurement ID in hand, this part is incredibly straightforward. Wix has a dedicated integration that makes this a simple copy-and-paste job.

  1. Log in to your Wix Account and go to your site’s Dashboard.
  2. From the left-hand navigation menu, select Marketing & SEO.
  3. Under "Tools & settings," find and click on Marketing Integrations.
  4. You’ll see a list of available tools. Find Google Analytics and click its "Connect" button.
  5. A pop-up will appear. In the top right, click Add Google Analytics.
  6. Paste the Measurement ID (G-XXXXXXXXXX) you copied from Google Analytics into the provided field.
  7. Ensure the checkbox for "IP Anonymization" is checked. This is an important privacy feature that helps with GDPR and other data privacy regulations by not storing visitors' full IP addresses.
  8. Click Save.

That’s it! Wix is now officially connected to Google Analytics.

Step 3: Make Sure It's Working Correctly

Before you celebrate, it's wise to verify that the connection is active and data is flowing. While most reports in GA take 24-48 hours to fully populate, the "Realtime" report should show activity a lot sooner.
